“I don’t think it’s the end of our business, I think it’s a matter of us tuning in, understanding and shifting.”
In the past, Lotan’s collections have offered us 70’s inspired pieces, evening gowns, and leather bombers. The designer has always stuck to a continuous minimal, with easy-to-wear looks that always shout rock-glam. However, with Covid-19 taking the fashion world by storm, Lotan claimed that “It just doesn’t feel appropriate to dress up.” Wanting to tune in with her customers, her already coherent mood board changed from months of hard work to a near-clean slate. Keeping her vintage-inspired drive, the mission to create from home was definitive. Lotan produced a delicate yet luxurious colour palette of steel blue, stormy grey, winter whites and camel. By bringing these colours forward, Lotan has shifted annotations to words of wellness and feeling calm; an emotion that the designer wanted to portray within her collection.
Lotan focused on the idea of ‘work-from-home-wear’, as she doesn’t expect her customers to be dressing up in beautiful pieces and dazzling accessories. The collection includes a timeless trench coat, bush jeans, wide-leg joggers, a western jacket as well as an addition of hoodies, jumpers and casual shoes. The designer wants her audience to feel comfortable yet put together, to find that motivation for the working day when you’re not heading to the office. Although, on the occasion where you do want to dress up, Lotan’s clean low-cut cotton shirts look effortlessly chic, which could be worn to entertain from your home.
This collection has shown us how to layer in style to compliment the winter months with a pencil button-up shirt, zip-up hoodie and a trench coat. A coin coloured woollen turtle neck jumper is also presented with a pair of jogging bottoms and converse. The legwear endorses the collection entirely, as they are tight-fitting, balancing against the loose jumper where you can feel put smart, complete and casual.
Lotan has designed beautiful staple pieces with a twist of 70’s nostalgia, allowing you to express your inner fashion passion. The designer’s niche works, you can always see yourself wearing her collection and wanting to buy everything that you lay your eyes on.
‘I didn’t want anything fancy.’ A polished look of cosy has been the theme for Lotan, and I think she has delivered.
